Get the Kids Playing Outside in Newton County

You will find easy ways to get the kids playing outside with spring events in Newton County this April. Shake off the winter blues and head to the many upcoming events where you can enjoy family fun at its best. Here are just a few activities in recreation tourism that await you and yours.

Putt Putt on the Square

It’s the simple activities in spring that help the family enjoy the outdoors. For an effortless family fun event, head out for a game of Putt Putt on the Square. On Friday, May 8, from 6 to 9pm, the square in downtown Covington will be transformed into a putt-putt golf course with 9 holes. Combine this family outing with dinner out at one of our places to eat in the downtown area. Check out some of our more kid friendly restaurants the whole family will enjoy: Your Pie, Amici’s and Bradley’s Bar-B-Q.

Covington Bike Fest 2020

Springtime is a great time to get out and ride a motorcycle and is usually the season when the square comes alive with steel-framed cool cruisers, but due to precautionary measures and the summer months being just a tad too warm, mark your calendars for this recreation tourism hip happening on Sunday, October 11 from 10am to 6pm. Bring the family to downtown Covington for fun-filled activities at Covington Bike Fest 2020. The day includes music, a motorcycle show, motorcycle themed games, vendors and food. All proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Newton County Family Fun Day

On Saturday, April 25th from 11am to 3pm, join us for the third annual Newton County Family Fun Day at Legion Field. This is a special event for families in the community to come together in fellowship to celebrate #OneNewton. Everyone can enjoy free food, music, games, family entertainment such as rock climbing walls and bounce houses, and more. What a fun-tastic way to get those kids playout outside!

7th Annual Strawberry Festival

If you love strawberries then you must go to the 7th Annual Strawberry Festival! The festival is held on Saturday, April 25 from 10am to 6pm and Sunday, April 26 from 11am to 5pm at Mitcham Farm in Oxford. One of the reasons the strawberry festival is a great recreation tourism event is its hands-on fun. You and your kids will have a lot of fun picking strawberries! If you prefer, there will also be pre-picked strawberries and plenty of options for eating them, too. When you attend the strawberry festival, you will find specialty food items for sale, craft vendors, food and drink, live music and entertainment, hayrides, farm animal viewing area, and other fun!
