#TouristTales: Meet Elisa, our Italian Vampire Diaries Super-Fan!
Last Friday, the vamps came out to Covington for the final premiere of The Vampire Diaries. The day began on the Covington Square, as local merchants opened their doors for the many fans. Visitors enjoyed specialty drinks and meals at the Mystic Grill and the Irish Bred Pub. Boutique shops like Jaymes and Co. and Southern Roots, turned into “Boo”-tiques and offered discounts on vampire-themed goodies. Then, the legions of fans braved the raging winds and cool, October chill and gathered at Legion Field to watch their favorite show.
We caught up with one fan who braved an ocean just to be in Mystic Falls, for the final premiere. Elisa Tamburro has been a long-time fan of the show since the very beginning. Naturally, she hopped on a plane and travelled over 11 hours from Italy, to be in Covington, Georgia.
She’s also our first interview for #TouristTales, a collection of interviews with the tourists of Covington. We’ll be bringing you stories from Covington’s national and international visitors, so you can truly see why the world loves Covington! A huge thank you to Elisa, for allowing us to speak with you. We truly enjoyed the evening and consider you a member of the Covington community. Come back and visit us soon!

GoCovington: Elisa, thank you so much for joining us for The Vampire Diaries Season 8 premiere! Can you tell us where you’re from and why you love The Vampire Diaries?
Elisa: I’m from a town that is close to Bologna, in southern Italy. It’s about 120 kilometers from Venice. I’ve been in love with The Vampire Diaries since the show started in my country. We didn’t even get The Vampire Dairies until 2011, and it was only shown around midnight at night! I would stay up to watch it, because I was absolutely hooked. I fell in love with the very first episode, but it became an addiction after Season 2. It was right when Damon and Elena were beginning to fall in love and it was all a secret. Damon is my favorite character, because he’s so changing and fast moving and exciting!
GoCovington: Do you have any other favorite characters?
Elisa: I love Bonnie! I actually met Kat (Kat Graham, who plays Bonnie in the show) at a convention in Europe. She was so kind! We ended up sitting in a circle, on the ground, and talking about all of our favorite moments through the series. She’s so incredible and such a great singer!
GoCovington: You’ve actually met a few of the cast members, through your travels. Can you tell us more about that?
Elisa: I’ve met almost every cast member except for Nina Dobrev, Candice King, and Steven McQueen. Everyone is wonderful (on the cast). I’ve been able to travel to Las Vegas, Orlando, Chicago, and San Diego to go to these different conventions, here in the US. And, I travel to the conventions through Europe, as well. And, I’ve been to Covington, once before. I came last year and met the most wonderful people. I met your Police Chief at last year’s Fuzz Run and took the walking tours.
GoCovington: Speaking of the Vampire Stalkers tours, you recently returned from a visit to Worthington Manor!
Elisa: It was such a thrill to be able to see the Manor. It’s a fantastic place and the grounds go on forever. You really feel like you’ve stepped onto the show. We took a million pictures on the property and then went to Elena’s house, right across the street. This was probably my favorite part of the trip. That, and eating at the Mystic Grill. We eat here every time we come to Covington. Honestly, if I could move to the US, I would. Everyone is so fantastic and wonderful and friendly. If you have a chance to come to Covington, you definitely should.
GoCovington: We would love to have you! So, let’s wrap up our interview with your expectations for Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries! Any particular storylines you want to see resolved?
Elisa: This show is so important for so many fans. It’s such a great way to meet fans from all across the world. So, I hope that they do the show justice and give us something to remember. I was worried that Season 7 would be the last, so when I found out about Season 8, I couldn’t be happier. I’m hoping that everyone gets their story resolved, but I’m most looking forward to Caroline being with Stefan.
