Things To Do In Georgia On The 4th of July

Newton county gives plenty of reasons why it is a great place to visit in Georgia for July 4thEveryone’s birthday is a grand celebration of their life and of the lives they touch. America is no different! All over the country people will be celebrating this great nation and all of its accomplishments! Following tradition, fireworks will be exploding all over the nation.  The tradition of setting of fireworks during festivities dates way before the War of Independence.   Back in the early 1600's, John Smith launched the very first American fireworks to celebrate landing in the new world.   And of course, after signing the Declaration of Independence, the inaugural celebration was concluded by fireworks. Today, we follow in our Founding Father's tradition.  Every 4th of July, the night sky is illuminated with the explosive beauty of fireworks. What is a visitor to do when looking for things to do in Georgia to celebrate the birth of our nation? Here are a few suggestions: Join us in Downtown Covington, just a short drive from Atlanta, for the annual celebration on July 6th! Special guest Bo Bice, runner up from the 4th season of American Idol will be in Covington with local musician Mac McKibben and McKibben’s Band, Drive Time.  Bice has been living in the area for about a year and is very supportive of the local music scene. The line-up including many other local musicians provides all day entertainment and plenty of things to do in Covington.  Vendors from across the county will be selling food and souvenirs; the children will enjoy the many inflatable playgrounds.   The family fun only gets better once the spectacular, colorful fireworks start exploding in the night sky!  Get to the park at 4 PM for all night activities! This 4th of July, kick off the day at 10AM with the City of Oxford Independence Day Parade!  Take part as Uncle Sam leads the way! There will be Parades and Fireworks are just some of the events that make Newton County such a tourist attraction in Georgiafirst place ribbons and cash awards for each of the following: Best Float, Best Bicycle, Car, Truck, Antique Tractor, Lawn Mower, Best Equine, Go Cart and Four Wheeler. Make sure you register beforehand if you want to be able to win a prize! Line–up starts at 9 AM! Activities carry on all day  as the Shane Millwood Band plays and the Mayor gives out the awards! To top it all off, fireworks conclude the day at dark! EXTEND YOUR HOLIDAY TO JULY 6th For our friends in Porterdale, the Independence Day Parade starts at 4:00PM on July 6th! Join in the fun and decorate your wagons, bikes, and trikes!!  This will be a memorable event for the entire family.   Join together in  patriotism and wave to passersby as you express support for our country.  For more information on the parade contact Porterdale City Hall:  770-786-2217. After the parade, hang around and watch World Class Wrestling and the TNG Band!! In true Patriotic fashion, fireworks will end the perfect day once night has fallen on the parade.
