Things to do in Covington, Georgia- Be an extra!

HOS_3Color_wSlogan_LogoIf you ever visit Covington, Georgia and want to experience the life of an extra check the casting calls before you come. You might just be cast to be an extra! Recently I was an extra for a popular show that films a lot in Georgia. If you are thinking about being an extra here are my thoughts on it. My casting call was early in the morning. When I got the email it said I could be working up to 12 hours that day. However, I had heard that they tell you that so you take the whole day off of work. I was told they rarely ever go that long. I was disappointed because I wanted to spend as much time there as possible. Luckily for me, it did end up being a twelve-hour day! Those twelve hours were full of slow times, fun times, and strange times! The friends you meet during filming are great. When I walked onto the set that morning I knew absolutely no one. By the end of the day I had six amazing new Facebook friends. Being able to share the day with people doing the same silly things as you was one of my absolute favorite thing about being an extra. The slow times were an amazing break. In between shoots you’re free to do anything to pass time! Experienced extras brought card games and books. My silly newbie self had only brought my phone. It died early in the day but luckily my new friends shared their cards I had a great time and met a lot of great people, however, to be an extra you have to have a special personality. That’s just a personality that I don’t have. Some extras loved being there. They fought for camera time, acted their hearts out, and smiled more than the Cheshire cat. The best part of watching them work was that they loved it! However, if you are like me, the whole process is hard. It can be a bit hard to break out of your shell and be in comfortable in front of the camera. However, I do not regret my time being an extra. It was one of the most exciting experiences I have witnessed during my time in Georgia. If you’re visiting Georgia and want a unique experience I highly recommend checking the casting calls. I think it is something you have to experience at least once in a lifetime!
