"The Trip to Bountiful" Nominated for an Emmy

Screen Shot 2014-07-17 at 3.27.37 PMWe have exciting news for the Hollywood of the South! In 2013 a filmed called “The Trip to Bountiful” filmed in Porterdale, Georgia. The film has now been nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie! “The Trip to Bountiful” is based in the 1940s. It tells the story of an elderly woman who lives in Houston, Texas. She has always dreamed of returning to her childhood home of Bountiful. The elderly woman has to out-smart her daughter-in-law and son to return to her childhood home. Scenes for Houston, Texas, and Bountiful were shot in Porterdale. Even the main characters home was portrayed Poterdale, Georgia! A house on Ivy Street was used for her house. Also, buildings in downtown Porterdale were repainted to depict the city. One building was even transformed into a Greyhound bus station! Everyone who attended the filming had a great time. Teri Haler, the Main Street Porterdale director said “The Broadway play 'The Trip to Bountiful', turned "Made for Lifetime TV" movie production, brought a lot of buzz to Porterdale. Actors such as Blair Underwood, and actresses such as Cicely Tyson, Vanessa Screen Shot 2014-07-17 at 3.29.16 PMWilliams, and Keke Palmer brought many locals and not-so-locals to the downtown district to watch the filming, and the hope of catching glimpses of the casts.” “The Trip to Bountiful” starred Cicely Tyson, Vanessa Williams, and Blair Underwood. With that knockout cast its no wonder the movie was nominated for an Emmy! Tyson played the main character, Carrie Watts. Williams portrayed the role of the daughter-in-law and Underwood played the son of Watts. Tyson is no stranger to “The Trip to Bountiful” script. She has also won a Tony for her role as Carrie Watts in the broadway production of the movie. “The Trip to Bountiful” was originally written for TV in 1953.  A year later it became a Broadway play. We are very proud to congratulate “The Trip to Bountiful” on their achievement! We can’t wait to see what other amazing awards they are nominated for.
